I'm Wendy Lek, founder and designer of G A L E K T I C A.

After many years working as a clothing and accessories designer for international fashion brands including G-Star, Levi’s Vintage Clothing, Tommy Hilfiger, and Calvin Klein, I decided it was time to create something that truly reflected my own vision. In 2018, I founded G A L E K T I C A.

The name G A L E K T I C A is inspired by my love for '80s sci-fi films, futuristic design, the universe, and, of course, my surname, Lek.

From my home atelier in Broek in Waterland, a small village just outside Amsterdam, I design and handcraft leather bags, small leather goods, and wall pieces that explore the balance between geometry and softness, structure and movement, craftsmanship and imagination.

My inspiration comes from many places: architecture, contemporary art, graphic design, quilting, gemstones, fashion illustration, and the surreal beauty of everyday objects. I love discovering unexpected combinations of colour, texture, and shape. Every collection becomes part of the G A L E K T I C A universe—a world where sculptural forms, dreamlike landscapes, and playful details come together.

Only after years in the fashion industry did I realise I wanted to work differently. I had seen how much beautiful material was discarded simply because it no longer fit within a collection. Instead of creating more, I wanted to create with what already existed.

That philosophy naturally became the foundation of G A L E K T I C A.

I collect leather remnants from my own career and carefully source deadstock and surplus leather, giving these forgotten materials a second life. Every offcut has its own character, and every combination tells a different story.

Each piece is designed and handmade by me in small quantities, with great attention to detail and respect for the materials. No two patchwork bags are ever the same, making every creation completely unique.

For me, craftsmanship is about more than making beautiful objects. It's about creating pieces with character—pieces that are made to be worn, loved, and treasured for many years.
