I'm Wendy Lek, founder and designer of G A L E K T I C A.

After many years working as a clothing and accessories designer for international fashion brands including G-Star, Levi’s Vintage Clothing, Tommy Hilfiger, and Calvin Klein, I felt it was time to create something that truly reflected my own vision. In 2018, I founded G A L E K T I C A.

The name is inspired by my love for '80s sci-fi,  the universe—and, of course, my surname, Lek.

From my home atelier in Broek in Waterland, just outside Amsterdam, I design and handcraft leather bags, small leather goods, and wall pieces. My work explores the balance between geometry and softness, structure and movement, craftsmanship and imagination.

After years in the fashion industry, I became increasingly aware of how much beautiful material was being discarded. This shaped the way I wanted to work: more consciously, with respect for both material and craftsmanship.

I work with leather remnants collected throughout my career, carefully sourced deadstock and surplus leather, alongside selected high-quality European leathers. Sometimes these materials come together in one-of-a-kind patchwork pieces; other designs focus on a single leather, shape, or construction.

Inspired by architecture, contemporary art, quilting, gemstones, graphic design, and sci-fi, I create pieces with character—made slowly, by hand, to be worn, loved, and treasured for years.
